Welcome to the land of enchantment! When you arrive in Liberia, you’ll be taken to a romantic hideaway off the beaten path at Rio Celeste near the Tenorio Volcano National Park. With no surrounding towns, you’ll be at one with nature deep within the rainforest at a luxury style hotel featuring individual secluded cottages with private patios. You’ll have a free day to explore the hotel’s 3 Jacuzzis, pool, spa, restaurant, bar, and Armadillo Trail, a mile-long river walk ending with a refreshing swim in sky blue water! Here you’ll experience the absolute freedom of being surrounded by nothing but nature. On another day you’ll be taken on a guided hike to see the beautiful Rio Celeste Waterfall, and beyond to find where two rivers merge creating the amazing azure color. This is a 4 to 5-hour moderate guided hike with a few rest stops along the way as your naturalist guide points out the beautiful flora and fauna all around you. Because it’s a true rainforest you can expect some rain, but with luck, the sun will peek out and brighten up the mossy green forest shadows.

Next, you’ll travel over to the northwestern corner of Costa Rica where the Guanacaste shoreline is full of remote, untouristed beaches. A charming hotel awaits located on a secluded cove with powerful sunsets. You can walk right out onto the soft sugar sand beach and explore your own private cove together. Back at the hotel, you might like to cool off in the pool plus take advantage of the available spa services such as a couples massage out under the palm trees. Complimentary yoga is offered daily.

Now that you’re at the ocean, we’ll complete your seaside experience with a fun half day trip aboard a comfortable catamaran with refreshing drinks, lunch, an amiable crew, optional water sports equipment, and a guided snorkeling adventure. Itinerary

Day 1: Welcome to Costa Rica and on to Rio Celeste

Upon your arrival at the Liberia International Airport (LIR), a representative will greet you and provide transportation to your hotel called the Rio Celeste Hideaway located near the Tenorio Volcano National Park.

Day 2: Free day to Explore Rio Celeste Hideaway (B)

This day is yours to simply enjoy the beauty of your surroundings. Your hotel offers many amenities including a mile-long trail along the river that you can follow to go swimming in the amazing sky blue water. Or just enjoy relaxing in the hotel’s 3 Jacuzzi’s and pool.

Day 3: Celeste River and Tenorio National Park Hike (B)

Today’s 4 to 5 hour guided hiking tour, exclusive to guests of the hotel, will take you into Tenorio Volcano National Park to see the splendid Rio Celeste Waterfall and follow the trail until you find where two rivers merge creating the bright blue water.

Day 4: Rio Celeste to Playa Pan de Azucar, Guanacaste (B)

Transportation will be provided to Playa Pan de Azucar, near the Flamingo-Conchal area in the Guanacaste. Here, you will be staying on the beach at the Hotel Sugar Beach.

Day 5: Catamaran and Snorkeling Cruise – Lazy Lizard Sailing (B, L)

You’ll be picked up and driven to Playa Flamingo to board the Lazy Lizard catamaran for a half day cruise along the coastline before stopping to swim and snorkel at a deserted cove. Drinks and Lunch will be provided.

Day 6: Free day at Playa Pan de Azucar (B)

Another day to spend together any way you like. You might just want to kick back and relax at the hotel or explore on your own some of the more populated beaches such as Flamingo or Conchal. If you like, you can customize your itinerary with an additional scheduled activity.

Transportation will be provided back to Liberia International Airport scheduled to arrive three hours prior to your departure flight. May your sweet memories bring you back again!

Rio Celeste

The amazing sky blue water of Rio Celeste has a long, mysterious history dating back to the 14^th century when indigenous peoples reportedly believed the gods painted the sky blue, then afterward washed their brushes in the river. Scientists attribute the changing color to a mixing of chemicals from two rivers flowing into each other creating one 9 mile ribbon of blue water cascading over a 300-foot waterfall. The most recent studies suggest it is an optical illusion formed by the reflection of particles when the two rivers converge. Whatever else it is, it is exquisitely beautiful, attracting those who are willing to make the hike into the surrounding rainforest to seek out the mystery. Playa Pan de Azucar of Potrero Bay, Guanacaste

One of the more remote areas along the Pacific northwestern coast of Costa Rica, Potrero Bay defines an area of calmer waters with small unpopulated secluded coves. One of the natural wonders of Costa Rica is the brilliant blue waters at Rio Celeste. The Rio Celeste Hideaway Hotel provides a private guided hiking tour for guests who stay at the hotel. Your guide will take you into Tenorio Volcano National Park, where after a short upwards hike, you will see the beautiful 300-foot Rio Celeste Waterfall cascading into a turquoise pool. There are 250 well-constructed steps with a handrail you can use to go down to an observation platform located next to the falls for epic photos. After coming back up the steps, you’ll catch your breath before resuming your hike along the nature trails in the rainforest. You’ll stop for short rests at several more observation platforms until you reach the area where two rivers join, turning their brown waters into one bright blue river. Occasionally weather conditions can make it difficult to see the colors. You’ll pause for a fruit snack before returning to the park entrance. Lazy Lizard Catamaran and Snorkeling Cruise

The Lazy Lizard Catamaran and Snorkeling Cruise is a great way to get out on the ocean, look for marine life and enjoy the beautiful Guanacaste coastline. The friendly crew will make sure you have plenty of liquid refreshments and a picnic lunch will be served. You’ll reach a deserted cove to go for a swim and a guided snorkeling adventure. There are kayaks available for your use, as well as foam noodles for swimming, or you may just like walking along the beach.
