The adults-only Secrets Papagayo Resort creates the ultimate romantic experience surrounded by secluded tropical beaches hidden away in Costa Rica’s Pacific northwest. Here you’ll find turquoise waters, gorgeous sunsets, and luxury accommodations. Six restaurants offer excellent cuisine and a variety of dining experiences. Well-appointed spacious rooms are scattered over the hillside giving way to the natural beauty of the beachfront. The resort provides an abundance of indoor and outdoor activities, such as water and beach volleyball, yoga, paddle boarding, cooking classes, plus live entertainment each night. Swim up bars offer all-day unlimited premium cocktails with service out on the beach as well. You’ll likely wake to the sound of monkeys, see an iguana or two, or a flock of squawking green parrots flying by. A trail up the hill will take you to a great lookout point over the vast Pacific Ocean. To top it off, we’ve arranged for you to go on two exciting tours during your 7-day stay, ziplining through the native jungle and exploring neighboring beaches while on a guided snorkeling expedition.

We’ll have a representative greet you as you arrive at the Liberia International Airport (LIR) and assist with your transport directly to Secrets Papagayo Resort and Spa. The short drive to the resort will take you through rural towns where it seems as though time has stood still. Leaving the open lowland valley, you’ll experience the geographical change as you climb up into the jungle-covered hills circling the pristine coastline. In a half hour or so you will have arrived, ready to relax and take in the spectacular beauty of the Papagayo Gulf region with its secluded beaches along the endless Pacific Ocean.

Your room, the Bungalow Suite Tropical View, features among other things, a private outdoor patio, indoor seating area with sofa, TV, WiFi, international telephone, complimentary minibar, coffee maker, and comfortable bedding including a pillow menu! Located on the quieter side of the property near the spa, it is close to the lounging pool and hiking trail. In addition to parrots, guests have sighted colorful motmots, magpie jays, pygmy owls, woodpeckers, and herons.

As you stroll through the resort, you’ll discover six restaurants each offering its own style of cuisine and atmosphere, all part of your Unlimited Luxury All Inclusive plan. The main breakfast restaurant, the Market Cafe, has an extensive buffet that changes daily. You can opt to have breakfast at the Barefoot Grill by the pool or over at the Aqua Restaurant overlooking the Pacific Ocean. The Barefoot Grill and Aqua Restaurant are also open for lunch and dinner. Other dinner restaurants include the Seaside Grill and the Pan-Asian Hitmitsu where one is expected to dress in casual elegance, ergo no sleeveless shirts or flip flops! For formal dining and dress code, you’ll enjoy the sumptuous fare at the Portofino Italian restaurant where the wine from the “Wine Cellar” is paired with each course. Long pants and closed shoes required for men, appropriate attire and a minimum of dress sandals for women. Mix it up and have fun trying out the various restaurants as though you are on a different date together every night!

During the day, you can enjoy lounging poolside or under the sun umbrellas out at the beach. The Manatee and the Sugar Reef bars are happy to serve you cocktails in either location. Other onsite bars include the Rendezvous in the lobby and a swim up pool bar called the Barracuda. Unlimited tropical drinks, both with and without alcohol, are included as are regular drinks and refreshments. Coffee lovers will enjoy spending time in the casual Coco Cafe drinking delicious Costa Rican coffee and indulging in decadent snacks.

Constantly changing daily resort activities include cooking lessons, water aerobics, and yoga classes among others. There are hiking trails, a fitness gym, and an assortment of non-motorized water sports equipment, including paddleboards and kayaks, offered by the resort for your use. Watching the tides is recommended as spiny sea urchins inhabit some of the shallow tide pools hidden at high tide that can cause a painful encounter! The water is perfect for snorkeling and the sand beaches invite long walks for beachcombing.

On your third day, you’ll be picked up and taken to a private forest preserve to go on an exciting, high-speed zipline adventure soaring through the jungle over steel cables. Whether it’s your first time or not, professional guides will help you suit up, cover safety instructions, and show you how to use the equipment until you are ready to fly. You’ll start from one of 14 natural platforms and zoom over 11 cables, some over 1,000 feet above the ground. This is an exhilarating half day tour that is a “must do” while visiting Costa Rica.

On your fifth day, you’ll be driven to Guanacaste’s top four beautiful beaches and go for a snorkeling expedition over a variety of coral and rock formations. Your certified guide will help you identify many types of colorful fish and other marine life visible on the day of your outing. This half day adventure includes lunch and you have the option to upgrade this tour to a scuba diving expedition if you wish. (The cost of the upgrade is $50 per person.)

The rest of your time is yours to relax and enjoy this beautiful, magical spot together, ideal for those seeking a romantic holiday. On the northernmost reaches of Costa Rica’s Nicoya Peninsula along the Pacific coastline lies Papagayo, a region outlined by the Papagayo Gulf. Comprised of 12 beaches starting near Playa Ocotal and ending at Santa Rosa National Park, the area has known rapid development in some places while others have stayed relatively secluded. In addition to 3 wonderful hanging bridges, a bit of uphill hiking is involved to reach all of the 14 platforms, most of which are located high up in the trees. An incredible opportunity to go beach hoping to see Guanacaste’s beautiful coastline, this tour will take you to four unique beach sites stopping to snorkel along the way! You’ll visit the soft pink sand and pristine waters of Playa Conchal, Playa Flamingo’s beautiful white sand beach, Playa Grande where during certain times of year the Leatherback turtles come to nest, and festive Playa Tamarindo, a great place to learn how to surf and shop for souvenirs. Your guided snorkeling tour will begin from the beach where you’ll swim out over rock and coral beds to view the colorful marine life of the day.
