Playa Panama’s natural beauty extends for two kilometers within the protection of Panama Bay. The gentle slope of the beach and calm waters ensure a pleasurable swimming experience without hidden rocks or sudden drop-offs. The sand is slate grey contrasting nicely with the turquoise colored water while plenty of shade trees offer sun protection. Despite its seemingly remote location, it is actually close to a few more populated beaches which are fun to visit. So, we’ve arranged for you to go on a guided tour of four neighboring beaches, each uniquely different from each other. Along the way, you’ll be led on a beautiful underwater snorkeling expedition by your knowledgeable guide. A scuba diving option is available at an extra cost to cover the equipment. During this outing, you’ll also be stopping for lunch at an ocean view restaurant.
On another day, you’ll be traveling to the Palo Verde National Park for a comfortable wildlife cruise along the Tempisque River, known for one of the largest concentrations of wetland birds in the country. An interesting interplay of seasonal flooding invites migratory birds to rest their weary wings as they flee the winter months up north, while the dry season creates a concentrated food source for the native birds when the northern birds return home. Either way, Bird Island, in the middle of the river, provides the perfect opportunity to see groups of large waterfowl such as Rosette Spoonbills, Woodstorks, and a variety of Herons to name a few. Your guide will also point out other river inhabitants that may be visible along the shore and within the water.
Back at the hotel, you’ll likely see or hear a number of animals on the property which is surrounded by jungle. Despite their loud calls, Howler Monkeys are quite small, and often families can be seen up in the trees. Iguanas sun themselves on rocks or branches and during certain seasons, whales may be migrating, or you’ll see a pod of dolphins playing in the bay. The rooms at El Mangroove are all air-conditioned suites with private bedroom and separate living quarters that can be opened up to include an additional screened porch to take in the freshness of the tropical air. Your room will be the Bark Suite surround by a forest view.
The main Makoko Restaurant offers both outdoor seating and an inside air-conditioned area enclosed all in glassto keep you in touch with your beautiful surroundings. You’ll have an exciting day exploring four awesome Pacific beaches, snorkeling Costa Rica’s warm tropical waters, and eat lunch at an ocean view restaurant. Popular for surfing and the culture that goes with it, Playa Tamarindo’s extensive beach offers a festive vibe of happy people enjoying their day with beachfront restaurants and shops, strolling minstrels, plus plenty of experienced surf instructors ready to teach you to surf. Just north of Tamarindo, the three-mile beach of Playa Grande, within Las Baulas National park, also attracts surfers to some of its surf breaks but is best known as the protected nesting grounds of Leatherback turtles which can grow up to seven feet long. Palo Verde National Park Tour
The unique wetland eco-system at Palo Verde National Park attracts biologists from all over the world who study the interesting wet to dry seasonal changes and how it affects the resident wildlife. This guided tour will take you down the winding Tempisque River on a covered boat to view the abundance of birds who gravitate to the area during each season. The wet season provides a protected landing area for migratory birds escaping the winter weather up north such as Roseate Spoonbills plus many from the Heron and Stork family. When the dry season comes and the wetlands recede, native species, including Macaws, Toucans, and Curassows, find it easy to feed on the concentration of crabs and other tidbits found in the remaining pools of water. At this time, a large native bird population can be seen on a small island found in the middle of the river. Your guide will also be pointing out many other forms of interesting wildlife along the shoreline and in the water visible on the day of your visit.
