Overview

Taking an off road ATV adventure in Monteverde is simply awesome! High up on the mountainous continental divide, Monteverde is a unique cloud forest area supporting a quaint town known as Santa Elena founded by Quakers in the 1950s. Because of the rich wildlife diversity the Quakers established sanctuaries to protect the virgin forests and endangered wildlife, like the rare resplendent Quetzal, that makes its home here.

Your ATV adventure begins on private property where you’ll receive safety instructions before practicing on a few tracks to determine your ability to control the ATV. Only licensed adults can do the driving although children over the age of 8 years can participate as passengers with a parental signature waiver. It’s best when booking to book a tour specifically for beginners if you have not ridden before. Those with limited ability may be asked to ride behind the drivers for safety concerns. If an extra guide is needed to be a driver for a passenger, an additional $35 will be charged.

Now it’s time to get dirty! Next you’ll enjoy a practice area where you can tear through the field as fast as you feel safe, ride through giant waterholes and plow up and down muddy, steep uneven terrain until you’re ready to venture out with your bilingual guide. The difficulty of the trail ride will be determined by your guide based on the ability of the group.

On this tour you’ll be surrounded by lush green rain forest, drive in and out of rivers, slide through mud and maybe see a seasonal waterfall before arriving at a scenic panorama of incredible mountain landscapes. On a clear day you may be able to Arenal Volcano or the Pacific ocean.

From here you’ll continue to navigate the steep dirt roads to visit the town of Santa Elena before heading back where you can spin 360s in a giant mud hole as a grand finale. Reviewers of this half day ATV tour seem to be in agreement that it was quite a thrilling adventure and not to be missed.

Be sure to bring an extra set of dry clothes and wear sturdy close toed shoes with covered heels. Includes: round trip transportation from the Monteverde area including Santa Elena, trail entrances, bilingual guide and ATVs. Maximum weight to participate is 240 pounds per person.

It was fun but we would've liked to have known it was an advanced course that should be meant for experienced ATV drivers

Another rainy day which gave us some wonderful mud puddles to ATV through. We stretched our abilities thru the different terrains and actually loved getting muddy! This was probably my son's favorite activity.

A little disappointed that we had to share rides with our guides during the final hour, but we had a fun time
