Congo Trails is a unique experience located in a natural forest hundreds of years old. Zip lining high in the canopy of giant Guanacaste trees is amazing and there is a good chance you may see monkeys living in the trees here. If you miss them, you can have an up close and personal encounter with both Howler Monkeys and Spider Monkeys when you visit Congo Park, a certified wildlife refuge caring for rescued animals. This is one of the few companies that welcomes young children to come zip lining so bring the family.
You’ll begin your day by being picked up from your lodging and brought into the Congo Trails headquarters. You’ll be greeted by the fully bilingual staff before being fitted for a harness and helmet and given gloves for zip lining. Safety instructions will be reviewed. Now you’re ready to zip into your day!
After a short uphill hike you’ll enter the forest canopy where natural wooden zip lining platforms are built around the interlacing branches of huge Guanacaste trees. You’ll be surrounded by an abundance of tropical plants, sounds of exotic birds as well as iguanas and monkeys that you friendly guides will point out to you if they happen to be visible during your visit.
At the first platform the guides will demonstrate the zip lining techniques and hook you up to your first cable. There are 11 zip line cables of differing lengths and heights to give you a variety of thrilling zip lining experiences. Off you go to the next platform where you will be met by another guide who will assist you to the next cable.
You’ll cross over 3 hanging bridges as you make your way between the 14 zip lining platforms high in the tree tops. The wooden platforms are designed and built to protect the trees and maintain the scenic beauty of the tropical forest. The strong steel cables are custom ordered from a company that specializes in the highest quality zip lines. Bottled water is offered while up on the platforms to keep you refreshed.
Once you discover how easy it is to zip from tree to tree, you’ll appreciate the longer and faster rides you’ll go on. You will also marvel at being so high up in the trees where you can imagine what jungle life must be like at all levels in the canopy. While soaring over the tree tops you’ll see the magnificent mountainous landscape of Costa Rica before you.
Your experienced guides will show you how to become aerial acrobats demonstrating how to fly tandem, upside down or horizontal like Superman. They will help you overcome your fears and enjoy watching you relax into the fun and exhilaration of soaring 1,000 feet above the ground.
Photos can be taken for an extra fee but if you bring your own GoPro camera be sure to ask for a special helmet that has a fitting for your video camera. Arrangements for photos can be made when you first check in.
Once you’ve zipped your way back down to the ground, you’ll be able to remove your safety harness, helmet and gloves. When you are ready you can visit Congo Park, a wildlife sanctuary for rescued animals.
Here you will meet friendly monkeys, see butterflies in their various stages of development, visit a tropical snake exhibit as well as be able to observe amazing birds up close who are being rehabilitated or no longer can live in the wild. There is also a petting zoo enjoyed by children and adults alike.
Round trip transportation, professional bilingual guides, zip line and park admission fees as well as bottled water are all included in this awesome half-day nature tour. Transport can take up to 1 hour each way depending on traffic and the location of your lodging.
