Overview

This expedition to the Sirena Ranger Station inside Corcovado National Park is an adventure for the more experienced hiker who dreams of exploring the thickest jungles of Costa Rica and viewing some of the rarest wildlife in Central America. The park is a protected conservation area and only accessible by boat. From Drake Bay, it takes approximately one hour to reach the Sirena Ranger Station located at the heart of the park.

You will meet the boat captain at Drake Bay where you will board the boat. The boat trip to the park can be an adventure in itself! While en route you will have the opportunity to look for turtles, dolphins, and other marine life. Depending on the time of the year, there may be a chance to see the humpback whales in the warm, calm waters as they migrate north and south.

These waters are also home to crocodiles, caiman, bull sharks, and even hammerhead sharks. Cruising along the coastline of Corcovado National Park you may see the strikingly beautiful Scarlet Macaws, as this track of land hosts one of the largest populations of the huge, colorful birds in Costa Rica.

Upon arrival to the Sirena Ranger Station, you will be served a hearty lunch to give you energy for your jungle hike ahead. You will want to wear fully enclosed hiking shoes to prepare for your guided tour into one of the most extraordinarily bio-diverse regions on the planet.

You will trek into the wilderness passing through several different eco-systems, including cloud and rain forests, as well as mangrove swamps while checking out the wildlife. Your naturalist guide is an expert in locating and identifying the various species of flora and fauna you will encounter in this protected area. Be sure to bring binoculars and a camera!

Corcovado National Park is home to a spectacular array of wildlife due to the many eco-systems and its remote area. Located on the west coast of the Osa Peninsula, it is the largest park in the country, covering over 160 square miles and protecting about 1/3 of the wildlife living in natural habitats on the peninsula.

After the hike you’ll head back by boat, resting your heels and once again on the look-out for any shore birds or marine life that might visit you!

The boat ride from Drake Bay to the Sirena Ranger Station takes about 1 hour. The total time for your adventure hike including lunch and round-trip boat transportation can be between 6 and 8 hours depending on the size and speed of your group.

This tour includes boat transport, a certified bilingual nature guide, park admission fees, and lunch. Note: The $15 per person park admission fee and $11 for lunch cannot be refunded in the event of cancellation. Please bring your non-skid, completely enclosed hiking shoes and wear lightweight protective clothing. You will also want to have sunglasses, sunscreen, insect repellent, rain gear, binoculars, and your camera. Parts of the hike can be very damp so consider protection for your camera and binoculars.

This is a moderately difficult tour providing an amazing opportunity to hike in one of the wildest jungle regions of Costa Rica. Have fun!

Please note clients staying in Casa Corcovado or Corcovado Wilderness Lodge are picked up by a small panga

other tour with Gabriel. We advice to do the two tours with the same giude always, if the guide already knows you he make you see always different things

Our guide, Gabriel, was amazing!

The guide was very informative and worked hard to be sure we saw many creatures. We did rush through at times, but that was due to the length of the hike and timing, not due to the guide hurrying us along. He enjoyed the terrific wildlife as much as we did! He was very helpful to be sure we got pictures.

Excellent guide but too many people being taken to the same spots doesn't feel very organized

This tour exceeded my expectations. Ready to return!

It's a long boat ride which makes it tough to get there early. Our guide was knowledgeable but not as good a spotter as some of the other guides we'd had. We would have been more impressed had we not already seen so much on our other tours in the five weeks were were in Costa Rica.

Javier the guide was exceptional. He went out of his way to make sure we saw all the available wildlife on the tour. I had a squirrel monkey land on my right shoulder before it leapt unto a branch.
