As Costa Rica is located near the equator, sunlight contains more UV light. Therefore, you should use plenty of sunblock or sunscreen. You should also cover up with long pants, long sleeve shirt and brimmed hat when possible. Drink plenty of fluids to stay hydrated.
Mosquito bites and diseases that can come from them are fairly easily avoidable if you take the proper precautions. Bring bug spray and use when necessary. Shut unscreened windows and doors from 4 PM – 8 AM and wear long pants, long sleeve shirts, a hat and shoes when comfort allows.
It is a good idea to bring a basic first aid kit with you. The basics are hand sanitizer, band aids, pain relievers, diarrhea medicine, Dramamine, tape and scissors.
