Just because the sun went down doesn't mean you cannot explore the jungle! If you are looking for a fun, nighttime activity during your time in Dominical, this is an excellent choice.
The overnight hike will take you on a true jungle experience. You'll hike to a campsite during daylight, eat dinner, then go out on your night hike adventure. You'll sleep in a small private screened cabin surrounded by night sounds, then hike back out of the jungle after breakfast. Your guide will ensure a fun and educational tour by pointing out and identifying the exotic creatures that come to life at night in Costa Rica. So strap on your hiking boots and come check it out!
It all starts at Hacienda Baru Lodge located in Dominical. You'll meet your bilingual nature guide and others who may be going in your group. While still daylight, you'll head into the jungle with your guide pointing out interesting plants and wildlife along the trail. When you reach the jungle camp you'll get a chance to relax, watch the beautiful sunset and enjoy a delicious typical Costa Rican dinner. At this time, you'll have a chance to get to know everyone in your group. Groups are limited to 8 people.
After dinner, your guides will take you on a night hike to show you just how different the forest looks at night. Did you know that more creatures are active at night than during the day? Nocturnal critters that normally come out at night include some mammals, spiders, red-eyed tree frogs, snakes, bats, and interesting insects. You may also see birds sleeping peacefully in the trees.
When your night hike comes to an end you'll make your way back to the base camp where you will sleep in one of eight tiny screened cabins that has a fully made bed inside. Nearby there are toilet and shower facilities. Immersed in a true rainforest in the middle of the night, you'll have the unique experience of falling asleep listening to the sounds of the jungle surrounding you.
Breakfast will be served the next morning after which your group will hike back down to the Lodge arriving around 10am. Birders should bring binoculars!
You can safely store all your luggage at Hacienda Buru Lodge and just take with you what you need for camping. You'll want to bring a change of clothes, personal items, bottled water for hiking, bug repellent, rain gear, and a flashlight.
