San Vito

Historically, San Vito differs from most Costa Rican towns as many of the occupants are of Italian descent. Towards the end of the Industrial Revolution in the 1800's, Italian settlers landed upon this town in hopes to make it their own. The struggles of clearing the land were well worth it in the end as the rivers from the neighboring mountain range made way for the nutrient rich soils. Visitors should be sure to check out Centro Cultural Dante Alighieri, this small museum tells the story of the town through its photographs, videos, books, and periodicals that have been kept throughout the years.

Top San Vito attractions include the Wilson Botanical Gardens and Las Cruces Biological Station. The Wilson Botanical Gardens are great for a day trip with six miles of hiking trails and thousands of species of tropical plants. The Las Cruces Biological Station encompasses over 500 acres of pure vegetation which contributes to the makeup of this research center.

The charm of San Vito can be found in the delicious cuisines in the many eateries around town. The Italians brought their traditional recipes that leave visitors coming back for more.
