The San Lorenzo Cloud Forest is one of the most overlooked, but easily accessible cloud forests in Costa Rica. The forest is located just north of San Ramon and south of Arenal Volcano. The area includes both rain and cloud forest due to the varying elevation, which can reach as high as 3,500 feet above sea level.
Wildlife is plentiful in the San Lorenzo Cloud Forest. Notable mammals that live here include howler and white faced monkeys, two-toed and there toed sloths, armadillos, anteaters, jaguars, ocelots and cougars. This is a bird watchers paradise with several hundred species having been identified such as emerald toucanettes, resplendent quetzals and a variety of trogons.
There is no park entrance fee or facilities at the San Lorenzo Cloud Forest. It is highly recommended to visit with a guide and for overall experience as the wildlife is camouflaged.
